Day 1
Over the Tizi n'Tichka to Aït Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate
Leave Marrakech early and climb the Tizi n'Tichka, at 2,260 m the highest road pass in Morocco. Drop into the kasbah country around Ouarzazate, tour the UNESCO ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, then visit Atlas Film Studios or Taourirt Kasbah before overnighting in Ouarzazate.

Day 2
Dadès & Tinghir to Erg Chebbi
Follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs east through the Skoura palm grove and the Dadès Valley, then on past Tinghir and the Todra Gorge toward Erfoud and Merzouga. Trade the 4x4 for camels at sunset and sleep in a tented desert camp on the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Day 3
Sunrise dunes & return to Marrakech
Watch sunrise over the dunes, then begin the long scenic drive back via Ouarzazate and the Tizi n'Tichka, arriving Marrakech in the evening with photo and lunch stops along the way.

- Three days means real distance: roughly 360 km Marrakech–Merzouga each way, so two of the days are mostly driving.
- A private 4x4 with a driver-guide makes the mountain passes and gorge roads far more comfortable than public transport.
- Desert nights are cold even in summer — pack a warm layer for the camp.

Yes, but it is the realistic minimum. You cross the Atlas to Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou on day one, drive to the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camp on day two, and return on day three. Four days makes it far calmer.
Why go through Ouarzazate instead of straight to the desert?
Ouarzazate is the natural gateway south of the Atlas — Aït Ben Haddou, the kasbahs and film studios are all here, and the road east along the Dadès is the scenic Route of a Thousand Kasbahs.
