Why Agadir
Rebuilt after a 1960 earthquake, Agadir is Morocco's premier beach resort: a sweeping crescent of golden sand, a palm-lined promenade and over 300 days of sunshine a year. It sits on the Atlantic coast south-west of Marrakech, with the Anti-Atlas separating it from the kasbah country around Ouarzazate — so it tends to bookend a southern trip with sea and rest rather than slot into the desert loop. The rebuilt kasbah hilltop crowns the bay, the surf village of Taghazout lies just north, and the palm-shaded pools of Paradise Valley hide in the Anti-Atlas behind.
What to see
A 10 km golden bay with calm swimming, beach clubs and one of Morocco's best seafront walks.
A bohemian surf village 20 minutes north — point breaks, yoga, argan-oil co-ops and sunset cafés.
Palm-fringed natural pools and waterfalls carved into the Anti-Atlas, an hour inland — the region's best half-day escape.
The hilltop ruins of the old fortress, rebuilt with a cable car and sweeping views over the bay and port.

If you want beach, sun and surf rather than old-city atmosphere, yes. Agadir is the country's best resort base, with reliable sunshine and easy access to Taghazout and Paradise Valley — a natural relaxing finale to a southern trip that began in the Ouarzazate kasbahs.
Agadir is sunnier, warmer and more resort-oriented with a bigger beach; Essaouira is windier but far more atmospheric, with a historic medina and ramparts. Many travellers combine both along the coast.
