Overview

A full day east to Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, where sheer rock walls rise some 300 metres above a narrow floor and a clear river — the most dramatic canyon in the Atlas, with a palmeraie at its mouth.

Todra is the great cleft in the High Atlas near Tinghir, where the canyon narrows to a corridor barely wide enough for the road and the river together, walls towering roughly 300 metres on each side. It's a magnet for rock-climbers and an easy, jaw-dropping walk for everyone else.

We stop first at the Tinghir palmeraie and an old kasbah viewpoint over the green oasis, then drive into the gorge to walk the narrowest section on foot. The day is long on driving but unforgettable; we pace it with stops and a riverside lunch in the canyon.

  • The Tinghir palmeraie and a kasbah viewpoint

Frequently asked

Questions about this tour.

Is it a lot of driving for one day?

It is a long day — roughly 170 km each way — so we start early and stop often. If you'd rather take it slowly, we can build Todra into a two-day Dadès + Todra loop with an overnight in the gorges.

Can I change the dates or itinerary?

Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Add a day, swap a kasbah, change the start point — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.

How fit do I need to be?

Easy. Light walking on kasbah steps and earthen lanes, plus optional activities you can opt in or out of on the day.

When should I book?

For high season (Oct–Apr) and any trip involving the Sahara or the Rose Valley harvest, book 6–10 weeks ahead. Last-minute (under 14 days) is usually still possible with a phone call.
